From and TO… the creative art of story making at the BAC

This week, the Bridport Arts Centre became a hive of imagination as we got to work with a very talented bunch of young people, running a story-making workshop as part of Laura Eldret’s From and To installation . The exhibition space, which was already alive with Eldret’s themes of exchange, community, and shared experience, proved to be the perfect setting for a session dedicated to creativity and collective storytelling.

This group of young storytellers created an epic Bergman-esque tale of Gary, a giant, floating cow, and how his friendship with the ghost of King Henry VIII saved him from his lonely existence, while possibly unlocking a mystery hidden in his past. Oh, and Death runs a pizza parlour, too, so... you know…

The story was brilliantly illustrated, live and in-person, by the absurdly wonderful Charlotte Grange. Check out more of her amazing work HERE.

What made the session truly special was the sense of humour and fun bouncing around the room. People who arrived unsure of what they might write soon found themselves totally immersed in the creative process, discovering this bizarre world and revelling in the invite possibilities that working in a creative way allows.

Thanks so much to the incredible Laura Eldret for asking us to be a small part of this extraordinary exhibition (you can follow Laura’s work HERE), and to the BAC for hosting it. Thanks also to our amazing volunteer mentors who really got the best (and the craziest) out of our young writers. Marina, Dre and Raja, you are brilliant and your ability to let the children lead the story allowed us to create something truly unique.
